about this site
Hi, I'm Chris Gansen, just another web junkie in Chicago, IL, where I spend my days hacking away at web stuff with IBM. This site came to life in early 2005 as a dumping ground for random projects, photo albums, and other goodies. The name derives from the field of linguistics; "deep structure" is a theoretical construct that unifies multiple related, observed forms (more at Wikipedia).

I'm terribly lazy when it comes to generating real content, so in grand web 2.0 style, I point you to a few other places where you can read more about me.
- last.fm/audioscrobbler - see what I am listening to at the moment, as well as past charts and what not.
- twitter.com/cgansen - microblog.
- bookmarks at del.icio.us - sites that I've saved for (improbable) future review
- facebook profile - silly pictures and such.
pictures!
I've got a Canon SD400 that I use a lot. I host my own album as well as maintain a small collection over at flickr.
projects
Occasionally I'll put something together that other people find interesting. Here's the shortlist.
- U-Mich salary lookup - the U publishes annual data about compensation. For a kick, I made it searchable. Then the hordes came.
- Gentoo Linux + BOINC for WCG - ebuild for BOINC on Gentoo. Probably out of date.
errata
I should mention that this is strictly a personal site, and in now way should be construed as officially related to or representing my employer.
